| Cars suck |

I am so over cars. After spending over $5000 on replacing the seized motor, an oil leak from the head gasket and "a significant coolant loss" was reported at the 1000km service last Wednesday - so I immediately booked in at the engine supplier for a repair under warranty. By saturday (160km later) I had already lost 2L of coolant, so I was glad I managed to get the car booked in for Tuesday. When I picked it up they had fixed the oil leak (relief), but had not fixed the coolant leak. They showed me the pipe join where they said it was leaking from, but hadn't fixed it as only the engine was under warranty. Not particularly stressed I just booked the car back in at the regular mechanic today, thinking it would all soon to be sorted out.
Ha!
An hour or so later I they called me - while there seemed to be signs of a leak where they said, it didn't explain the rate of loss so they did a pressure test ... and found that the coolant is leaking INTO THE ENGINE. On the phone to the engine supplier, who didn't quite believe it, but said he's send his on-the-road mechanic to my guy. So I went down there to wait (so much for a productive day at home clearing some work backlog!). Once he was convinced it was still a warranty job, it was off across the SE suburbs to take it back for warranty repair again. Now the head has to be removed and sent off for inspection, so I am without wheels for who-knows-how-long.
On the bright side, the warranty guy did offer to fix the other leak for free even though its not covered by the engine warranty.
All I can say is that back in the mid 80's when I switched from the "holden lover" mind set to "they are a necessary evil" was not without reason. Cars suck.

[01 Jul 2007|11:33pm] |
I just stumbled across a web site I built back in 2000: http://www.geocities.com/bs2ez/
I wonder if any of the other band sites I put together in the 90's are still about?

| Quick shoot yesterday |

Yesterday I jumped in to the train to meet Tayla and her borther on the steps of Flinder's Street, hurried up to an alleyway or two, click-click-click and then back on the train to get back to my desk by the end of the lunch break. Short but sweet:

She Wants Revenge (is still ringing in my ears) |
] |
(cross posted om MGF)
My ears are still ringing from this fine event. The support "Brazillian Girls" were ok-ish (the DJ "Kid Millionaire" was the other "attraction", and he was crap). SWR were preety damn awesome. They basically played their entire album, with two extra tracks (which are on their myspace) somewhere in the middle.
What blew me away was the encore. It started with some solo keyboard work by the bassist, after the first two pieces it started to change into something strangely familiar. Then out cam ethe lead singer with his guitar to join in, and it wasn't long before I was singing Depeche Mode's "Stripped" along with everyone else :) They did it just right: they didn't try too hard to duplicate DM exactly, and they also didn't try to make it something new. Just a fitting homage.
And of course they left "Red Flags & Long Nights" and "Tear you Apart" for the Encore as well (he claimed to have forgotten the lyrics, and "made" us sing the chorus. Tee Hee.)
Great venue, great sound, great lighting, great band and a great night just up from the corner of Hollywood and Vine", right across from Capitol Records.
And now for my 3hrs sleep before work tomorrow :)
Oh - and they announced that they have almost finished recording their second album ....

| The night of the comet |
[27 Jan 2007|08:46pm] |
The camping trip to Walkerville was uneventful, except for the surprise sighting of the McNaught comet. I had heard something on the news about a comet supposedly being visible at sunset a week or so back, but basically disregarded the news (given all the smoke haze earlier in the month). So I was quite surprised when walking to the shower block when I looked up and saw the comet clearly in the sky. By the time I returned to the tent to retrieve my camera and el-cheapo tripod (why didn't I take the good gear with me???) I had quite a crowd around me admiring the sight before us. Here are two of the shots I took (click for larger versions):

The only other "stellar" sighting was Willian McInnes (he of Blue Heelers and Kath and Kim) who was also camping there with his family and friends
Glad to be home and clean again I must say.

'List seven songs I am into right now, then tag 7 other people to list their 7 songs and so on.'
Tagged some time back by msp0, but finding it difficult to list seven songs as I am listening to so much different music at the moment I can't single anything out. Nothing is currently "speaking to me" any more than anything else. In the interest of participation however, here are seven songs that I have been "into" at some time in my life - even keeping this down to seven is a challenge and a half. Do you think you know the reasons for any of these?
In no particular order:
- Hawkwind: Golden Void
- Steve Hillage: Searching for the Spark
- Marillion: Sugar Mice
- Killing Joke: Bloodsport
- Depeche Mode: Blasphemous Rumours
- Human League: Being Boiled
- The Clash: Rock the Casbah
(and PS: I won't be tagging anyone ... most of my friends list members have already played this 'game')
